Trying to start a new community [15 Mar 2013|09:21pm]

Hello everyone,
So today I was checking out some of the options on LJ because it has beed so long since i have been on here, and I realized that I can make my own comunity. Needless to say I was uber excited to discover this, so I have decided to start a page dedicated to people with tattoos and piercings. This page is intended for people to cratively show off their body art. If you are interested in joining and helping to make this an awesome comunity with tons of great tats and piercings than please visit my comunity http://lovemyink.livejournal.com/ join, and add some creative photos of your body art, and maybe even comment on and admire other's.

Last week I watched "Tales That Witness Madness", a quirky 1970's British horror flick in the vein of Tales From The Crypt & Vault of Horror. In one of the segments, a man finds an old Penny Farthing bike, y'know, one of those old-fashioned bicycles with one really big wheel and one small one in the rear? Well, when he gets on the bike, he is transported back in time and...well, that's not really important. There's one scene where the house that the Penny Farthing bike is in catches fire and engulfs the bike.
This got me to thinking of the Marvel Comics demon/superhero GHOST RIDER. I started to visualize The Ghost Rider on a burning Penny Farthing bike and this lead me to paint it all out the next morning-

Satisfied with the results, I posted it on my DeviantArt site- http://ragzdandelion.deviantart.com/ and low and behold, it became an instant hit!! I got tons of viewers and faves. At the time of this post, it has nearly 7000 viewers and over 800 faves, the biggest I've ever gotten for any artwork I've posted on DeviantArt since I joined it 6+ years ago. I felt like Jerry Lewis at one of his Telethons watching the numbers rise.
It's so crazy. I guess you never know what will "connect" with people and make it a hit.
All I can say is "THANK YOU" to all the people that took the time to comment and to fave this piece. It means alot to me!
Now I've got to come up with a cool frame for the artwork and make sure I take it with me to the conventions.
It made my week, that's for sure!

Interview with Blaine Fontana [28 Dec 2008|05:08pm]

Honey Barracks, 24" x 24", acrylic on board

Brian Sherwin: Blaine, my understanding is that you lived in both rural and urban settings as a child and teen. Can you discuss the impact those two experiences had on your development as an artist? Philosophically speaking, do you think you would be the same artist you are today had it not been for living in those two very different settings?

Blaine Fontana: My work has always been about juxtaposing 2 worlds, several unlikely mediums, or techniques. This is directly an influence of my upbringing and current interests and inspiration. I couldn't imagine doing my work any different. So to say its been an influence would be an understatement. Lately I've noticed that having an ever changing upbringing and living in different cities across the west coast also steers my obsession to combat challenges and creating new styles that are outside of my comfort zone.

ILLUSTRATION NATION Movie! [13 Nov 2008|07:11am]

Hey peeps, sorry it's been a while since I updated. I wanted to alert you to my new movie that premieres just one week from today: ILLUSTRATION NATION!

The film follows the my adventures around the world on a promotional tour for the New York Times Best-Seller 'You Can Draw Star Wars' from Lucasfilm and DK Publishing. From George Lucas's Skywalker Ranch, through the heart of Hollywood, to the streets of fantastical Tokyo, ILLUSTRATION NATION is an uncensored look at fandom and the pop culture industry that drives it. The pulse-pounding documentary also features rare cameos ranging from Anthony Daniels (Star Wars) to Gene Simmons (KISS, Family Jewels) to adult film legend Seka. Check out the trailer below!

The premiere will be an event hosted by myself at the Main Art in Royal Oak, MI on Thursday, November 20th. Admission is $9.25. Short films and animations will screen at 7 pm. I'll introduce the feature presentation at 7:30 pm, the running time being 1 hr 57 min. A Meet and Greet with the cast will commence after the screening in the side lobby, followed by an after-party at Mr. B's on Main St. All are welcome. Please note that ILLUSTRATION NATION is Not Rated by the MPAA, and is not suitable for children.

See you there!
